Thai not all, none and what a report actually says

Separate what is denied from what is left open

Find the exact claim being denied.

In ไม่ใช่ว่า…ทุก…, a universal claim is rejected. That does not give an exact count. ไม่มี…เลย makes a different, stronger claim. Keep a restriction such as เฉพาะ… attached to the people, items or conditions it actually limits.

A report that does not say everyone agreed leaves individual opinions open. A report that says nobody agreed makes a claim about those opinions. Likewise, a pending application is not an approved application, but it need not be a rejected one.

ไม่ใช่ว่าข้อเสนอทุกข้อถูกปฏิเสธ มีสองข้อที่ยังอยู่ระหว่างพิจารณา

Not every proposal was rejected. Two are still under consideration.

ไม่มีข้อเสนอใดได้รับอนุมัติเลย แต่บางข้อยังไม่ได้รับการพิจารณา

No proposal has been approved, but some have not yet been considered.

Read the reporting verb and the quantity together.

Do not infer an exact number from a denial of a universal claim.

Repair an ambiguous attachment rather than choosing by guesswork

Use the supplied intention to make the reference explicit.

A description after two possible nouns may not identify its intended head clearly enough. Name that head in the rewrite. A likely interpretation is not the same as the only grammatical interpretation.

With two possible people in a noun phrase, a following description may leave its attachment unclear. A separate sentence naming the person can settle it. Preserve the original conversation partner as well as the person who moved.

ฉันคุยกับผู้ช่วยของอาจารย์ที่เพิ่งย้ายมา

I spoke with the lecturer’s assistant. In the Thai sentence, it is unclear whether the lecturer or the assistant recently moved here.

อาจารย์เพิ่งย้ายมา ฉันคุยกับผู้ช่วยของอาจารย์คนนั้น

The lecturer recently moved here. I spoke with that lecturer’s assistant.

ผู้ช่วยของอาจารย์เพิ่งย้ายมา ฉันได้คุยกับผู้ช่วยคนนั้นแล้ว

The lecturer’s assistant recently moved here. I have spoken with that assistant.

A repair should clarify the reference without changing the event.

Without resolving context or a stated intention, do not pretend that only one reading is possible.

Keep the smallest version that still tells the truth

Keep limits that change what the evidence says.

A summary can remove detail while retaining the source, population, time, uncertainty and exception that limit the claim. If those limits matter, they are not disposable decoration.

A result for some participants does not cover everybody. A group not surveyed cannot silently be counted as satisfied. Keep the relevant time, source and uncertainty as well as the result.

โรงเรียนรายงานว่านักเรียนบางคนอ่านเร็วขึ้นหลังทดลองวิธีใหม่สองสัปดาห์ แต่ยังไม่ได้วัดความเข้าใจ

The school reports that some students read faster after two weeks trying a new method, but comprehension has not been measured.

โรงเรียนรายงานว่านักเรียนบางคนอ่านเร็วขึ้นหลังทดลองสองสัปดาห์ แต่ยังไม่ได้วัดความเข้าใจ

The school reports faster reading for some students after a two-week trial, but comprehension has not been measured.

Before shortening, identify the limits that would change the claim if removed.

A summary may leave out minor details. Keep the time period, group and limits whenever removing them would make the result sound broader or more certain.

Do not merge disagreement into certainty

A finding, a recommendation and disagreement are separate.

If sources disagree, a faithful summary can state that disagreement. A recommendation based on a result is another step; keep it distinct from the result itself.

Two teams can report different results while both asking for another test. A proposed use is not proof of universal success. An expected attendance count is not a count of confirmed attendees.

ทีมหนึ่งเสนอให้ใช้วิธีใหม่ อีกทีมขอทดลองเพิ่มก่อน

One team proposes using the new method; another asks for more testing first.

ทั้งสองทีมยังไม่เห็นตรงกันว่าจะเริ่มใช้เมื่อไร

The two teams do not yet agree on when to start using it.

State what each source found or proposed without merging their positions.

Agreement on doing another test is not necessarily agreement on using a method now. Keep each proposal separate from the findings.

A missing decision is not a rejection

Not approved does not necessarily mean rejected: a decision may still be pending. Small words matter because they leave different possibilities open.

Removing a small word can strengthen a claim

A shorter sentence can become a stronger claim by accident. Check what disappeared, especially some, may and not yet.
